The Big Buck Hunter Pro app ($2.99) might just be so good that hunters will stay home, causing the deer population to overcome small towns and arcades across America to go dark. Based on the wildly popular hunting arcade game, the app makes its debut with a touch-screen interface that makes the game faster-paced.
Not being a veteran of the arcade game, at first I was confused at what I was supposed to shoot between the does, bucks and critters dancing and prancing across the screen. But I quickly got the hang of the game and was shooting three bucks in no time, only to have the iPod ripped out of my hand by my boyfriend, who proceeded to whoop it up for the rest of the evening shooting virtual bucks. I could have sworn he changed into camouflage to play.
The extras with the app include an arcade game locator in case you are feeling a bit nostalgic, and leaderboards if you are feeling competitive. I particularly fancied the Duck Hunt, Gopher Garden and Frog Flippin’ bonus rounds that you play between buck hunts.
I was always against hunting, and I’m embarrassed to say I’m addicted to this game. It has left me wondering, would I get that same rush of triumph if I shot a real deer? Please don’t take my PETA card away! It’s just a game, right?
