The multitude of fantasy baseball apps can make downloading an app feel like a college entrance exam: How you perform today might determine the rest of your fantasy baseball season! It’s often too easy to simply pick the Yahoo! app if you’re in a Yahoo! league or the ESPN app if you’re in an ESPN league, but ESPN Fantasy Baseball 2011 makes a pretty convincing argument for its use, regardless of what league you’re in.
It doesn’t hurt, for instance, that ESPN Fantasy Baseball 2011 is free. That means adding this app for use alongside your Yahoo! app won’t cost a dime. But that wouldn’t make any sense if the app was geared only to ESPN fantasy baseball players.
That’s hardly the case. Yes, there are some stellar league controls if you happen to have an ESPN fantasy team. As long as you’ve set up a team previously at espn.com, you’ll be able to make all the necessary lineup changes and trades your heart desires.

But even if you’re a Yahoo! player, the addition of MLB news in one convenient spot, accompanied by relevant fantasy-baseball-related Twitter feeds and ESPN analysis via video clips, would be useful for any participant.
About the only disappointing portion of ESPN Fantasy Baseball 2011 is its use of the ESPN Bottom Line. The line scroll in this app runs scores and news from all sports, and isn’t customizable in any way. If there was a way to get it to scroll only MLB-specific information, preferably with the option of targeting specific players on your fantasy roster, then we’d really be in business.
Even with a generic Bottom Line, ESPN Fantasy Baseball 2011 is still a formidable foe. While it’s certainly of more use to those who actually use ESPN to play fantasy baseball, the amount of general fantasy information should please owners in all leagues enough to warrant a download.
