If you’ve consumed any media recently you’ll know that legendary screen siren Elizabeth Taylor succumbed to congestive heart failure on March 23, leaving behind a legacy both on screen and off. The team behind The Daily app quickly rolled out Elizabeth Taylor Tribute Magazine, an iPad app devoted to the violet-eyed celebrity. Although the app is chock-full of imagery of the star, I’m not sure that its offerings will be enough for devoted fans.
Elizabeth Taylor Tribute Magazine traces Taylor’s life starting with her childhood. Each section of the magazine starts with a brief section of text and then follows with photos and videos about Taylor’s early career, her films, her many husbands, her fashion sense and her activism. The one-time issue is presented in The Daily’s signature format and can be viewed in both portrait and landscape mode. When viewing photos in landscape, however, the caption information disappears. This isn’t ideal since written content isn’t exactly voluminous in this app.
Elizabeth Taylor Tribute Magazine provides an average retrospect of the star. If a lot of pictures and a few short video compilations will satiate your need to reminisce about Taylor’s turns in National Velvet, Cleopatra or Cat on the Hoot Tin Roof, then this tribute is adequate. If you’re seeking a true in-depth look at Taylor and her life, however, you won’t find it in Elizabeth Taylor Tribute Magazine.
