With all the apps I’ve tried, none have given me more of a shock than Eliminate Pro, a single-player shooter game now available on the iPhone and iPod Touch. If you’ve got access to a WiFi or 3G network, then you’re ready to play. Eliminate Pro works by the user playing other people in real time over the Internet. Pretty cool for a game that’s free as well.
After it is downloaded, Eliminate Pro gets you set up quickly. Users watch a tutorial detailing a back-story and teaching you the controls. Then just suit up, pick your weapon and start playing. The controls can take a minute to get used to. They aren’t complicated, but when battling, it can be easy to forget how to move or jump until you’ve played for awhile. The controls were mostly intuitive, so you can grasp them quickly.
I was really impressed by the quality of the graphics. They are fluid and clear, and surprisingly, they don’t skip. Once I was playing, my connection to the Internet held up well without any service interruptions. As the bullets start flying, it’s easy to forget your playing on your iPhone and not your game console.
While the game is free to download, there are extras that you will end up paying for. The point of the game is to accrue points by taking out other players, so you can buy things like armor and better weapons. But players can only get points as long as they have energy left in their suit. Measured in power cells, you get about enough to play three games to start. Players can continue to play after their cells are dead, but you can’t get any more credits to buy more stuff, or to get higher in the ranking system. You can buy bundles of power cells starting at 20 for 99 cents. This is where you might start spending more money, but if you like the game enough to continue to play, it’s worth getting them in bulk.
With good images, fun play, and exciting battles, this app is a great one to try out it you like shooter games such as Halo, Bio Shock, etc.
Suit up and start eliminating.
