Election Caster gets our vote for tracking election news

If you’re looking for a well-designed, election-related news iPhone app between now and Nov. 3, the Election Caster would be a good choice.

The app collects all of the top national headlines, and presents them in an easy-to-use scrolling list. If you’re interested in state and local election news, enter your ZIP code, and you can get that too. And the stories get as a local as students at Beverly Hills High spearheading a petition to save a mural on their gym wall.

The occasional oddball headline does sneak in there (such as the score of the most recent UCLA game), but, for the most part, the content is right on target.

The app stands apart from others because of a few additional features. It aggregates blog news, and the user can select from the categories of right, center and left. This allows you to get your news from a variety of sources, including factchecker.com, Daily Kos and American Thinker.

Lastly, the Election Caster iPhone app also allows you to access the latest polls right on your phone. So if you want to know who’s in the lead in the California gubernatorial race, you can check the numbers on Politico, Pollster.com or RealClearPolitics.
