WORLD BOOK – This Day in History for iPad
One of the coolest apps for learning basic facts (and things you can definitely use at your next pub quiz night!). For example, by clicking it on the day this list was curated (April 13), I learned that Thomas Jefferson was born AND the first elephant ever seen in the US arrived from India in 1796. Cool stuff for kids and adults.

Drawing Den
The free edition of this app is sure to keep any little artist busy, with it’s pictures of a cat (that meows!), a squawking bird and a house. With plenty of colors to choose from and sound effects to boot, it’s great practice for your little learner.

Quick Graph: Your Scientific Graphing Calculator
Quick Graph is the fastest way to graph equations on the go. I’m not a math person myself, but reliable sources tell me that it’s great for any math or physics whiz. It has a library of basic equations, allows you to save a library of custom equations and do both 2D and 3D graphing, as well as a host of other features. Plus? No smudgy pencil or carrying graph paper.
StoryKit
This is one of those apps that makes me wish all of my students had an iPad. You write your story, illustrate it with a photograph from your album or your own art, record sounds or sound effects and lay them out. If you’d rather re-write well-known stories, you can do that, too: there are several children’s stories available via the public domain for you to reorganize into your own tale. A fantastic multi-media storytelling tool for all ages.
