Everything’s a buck today on Download Discounts. Check out the list below for a penguin-themed puzzle game, some help navigating while traveling in Europe, and an app that lets you play music by waving your phone around.
Penguin Madness (iPhone) $0.99 (was $1.99)
This puzzle game will remind you a lot of Tetris. That’s okay – Tetris is plenty of fun, and Penguin Madness… well, it has penguins!
You play by creating rows and columns by interlocking blocks that look almost exactly like those you find in Tetris. The game has several different game modes, including a “relaxed” mode in case the full-octane game is a little too stressful for you at the moment. With than 100 puzzle levels, you’ll be busy for a while.
Trains Europe (iPad) $0.99 (was $2.99)
One of the cool things about traveling in Europe is its extensive train system, which is handy for getting to a lot of different places. Problem is, the trains go to several countries and several cities within those countries, so it can get a little confusing.
If you’re carrying your iPad around with you on your trip, you can use Trains Europe to navigate between lines and make sure you know where you’re going. The app syncs to the Internet to download departures, arrivals and maps, so it’s always up-to-date.
GyroSynth for iPhone 4 (iPhone) $0.99 (was $1.99)
The only drawback of this cool-sounding music app is that it requires you to own an iPhone 4 because of the phone’s gyroscope sensor. If you have one, though, you can use GyroSynth to turn your phone into a gesture-enabled music maker.
You control the synthesizer by manipulating the iPhone in space – tilting, waving, flipping and so on. It’ll probably take a little time to learn, but the accuracy of the gyroscope should allow for some pretty precise translation between movement and music. The app also allows you to record and overdub as you’re playing.
