Galaxy on Fire 3D (iPhone) Free (was $2.99)

Today marks the release of the hotly anticipated sequel to this game, Galaxy on Fire 2, so in celebration, the original is free. Head to the App Store and get it now.

Galaxy on Fire is one of the deeper iPhone games available (part of why people are so looking forward to its sequel). It’s a sci-fi space-combat game that’s huge – it promises 20 hours of gameplay and is filled with space ships you can buy, planets you can visit, and aliens you can battle. Galaxy mixes arcade-style dogfighting and missions with RPG elements as well. That’s a lot of value for the cost of nothing.

Plants vs. Zombies (iPhone) $0.99 (was $2.99)

We just stumbled on this deal – one of the best games on iPhone and iPad today is currently one-third of the price. We’re not sure why (unless it’s something to do with Halloween), but who cares. Just go buy it.

If you pay any attention to the mobile app world at all, you’ll have heard about Plants vs. Zombies. The tower-defense style game has a great cartoony art style and is funny and frantic. It’s the kind of game that’s hard to put down once you’ve picked it up. This price is a steal for the iPhone. For iPad, Plants vs. Zombies HD is also discounted to half price.

Bolt for iPad (iPad) Free (was $5.99)

Reading the description for Bolt, an alternative web browser for iPad, I couldn’t figure out why I should recommend it other than that it was free. That is, until I got to the bottom of the description, where Bolt’s developers started talking about how much of a RAM hog Safari is – yup – and how much less RAM Bolt requires.

That’s a good point, and seeing as the browser is free today, it’s definitely worth trying out. Bolt sounds pretty lean, but it does have some useful functions, like link sharing straight out of the browser and compatibility with both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
