Get a slightly different take on the match-three genre today with Adubble, a free game that’s leading off our Download Discounts list for the day. In fact, all our apps today are free, including Pocket Dinosaurs 2, an Angry Birds-like physics puzzler that has you shooting dinosaurs through the air, and Discovr, a music-finding app that uses bands you already like to find you bands you’ve never listened to before. Adubble (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Like other match-three games, Adubble has a simple set of rules — line up three balls of the same color on a grid to clear them and score points. Unlike in other games, however, you have pretty much free reign to rearrange the grid as you see fit by sliding rows and columns in an attempt to group large sets of balls together and clear them all at once. You only get a limited number of combos in order to hit each level’s target score, however.
You get two gameplay modes and 60 levels are available for free in Adubble, and its gameplay is just as addictive as other members of its genre. Grab it while it’s free.
Pocket Dinosaurs 2 (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
In the style of Angry Birds is Pocket Dinosaurs 2, in which you’ll fire projectiles (in this case, dinosaurs) at various puzzles and make use of physics to try to get your objects where you want them. The goal is to fire as many dinosaurs as possible into a space ship in each level within 60 seconds.
Pocket Dinosaurs 2 packs four different game modes and 30 levels of challenge to get through. It also includes support from Game Center, which gives players access to achievements and leaderboards filled with players from all over the world.
Discovr (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Discovr lets you find new music to listen to by analyzing the stuff you already like. It’s a really simple app with an elegant interface: all you do is type in the name of a band, and Discovr’s database finds it, then finds other bands that are similar and start to create a web flowing out from the central hub of the band you first selected. Tapping a new band adds another web of bands similar to that one, and before long, you’re finding groups you’ve never even heard of before.
In addition to just putting you on to new bands, Discovr is full of information about them. Double-tapping a band brings up videos and biography info, as well as recent reviews and rumblings around the Internet about the group. Find something you like and you can save it for later and put your friends onto it using integration with Twitter and Facebook.
