Looking for new games? We’ve got a lineup of free and discounted titles that will definitely keep you busy through the weekend — especially the story-heavy Eternal Legacy, developer Gameloft’s take on the Final Fantasy series of late 1990s acclaim. You’ll want to check it out at its lowest price ever if you’re a fan of the Japanese role-playing game genre of video games. If not, we’ve also got a challenging physics puzzler in Isaac Newton’s Gravity and a turret-based space shooter in the form of Space Frak, and those are both free.

Eternal Legacy (iPhone, iPad) $4.99 (was $6.99)

Gaming fans, now is a good time to grab Gameloft’s role-playing game Eternal Legacy, a turn-based sci-fi/fantasy adventure in the vein of the Final Fantasy series. The game is set in a vibrant, big 3D world, and is currently at the lowest price the game has yet seen.

As you work through Eternal Legacy, you’ll be joined by other characters who will fight by your side in true turn-by-turn menu-based Japanese RPG style. The game features all kinds of side quests in addition to its main storyline, which is determined by your choices as you’re confronted by different decisions and alternatives. Story is at the forefront here, with the game filled out with lots of voice acting for a cinematic experience.

Space Frak (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)

Vertical shooter Space Frak is marked by high quality visuals, but you’ll want to stay for the addictive, tense gameplay. Instead of flying a space ship into battle against hordes of alien ships in a Space Invaders-like scenario, you command a stationary turret positioned at the bottom of the screen, defending a planet. Aliens, on the other hand, are bent on dive-bombing past you to the planet below, and it’s your job to stop them.

Space Frak is pretty simple but engaging because of the variety of enemies and the skill involved in taking down lots of bad guys at once for maximum points. It includes support from Game Center, adding achievements and online leaderboards into the mix. You’ll have to adjust your tactics to deal with different kinds of enemies, tapping to fire your laser or holding on the screen to charge up a stronger shot.

Isaac Newton’s Gravity (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $2.99)

Physics puzzlers — there’s approximately a bajillion of them in the iTunes App Store, but while Isaac Newton’s Gravity is one of their number, the game has a few key things going for it: first, it looks great, and second, it’s genuinely intriguing and challenging to play. Each puzzle requires you to use a ball dropped into the level to hit a button somewhere else. In order to get the force of the ball to the button somehow, you need to position a few objects that you have at your disposal on the level to change what happens.

You get 50 levels in Gravity for the price of free, as well as achievements and leaderboards care of Game Center. Gravity also includes a handy hint system to help you when you get stuck, and a level editor that lets you create your own puzzles and share them online.
