The Deep Pinball (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)
Online leaderboards, realistic physics and great graphics adorn this iPhone pinball adaptation, which has a nautical theme and works pretty well on the small screen.
Tapping on the one side of the screen or the other controls the pinball table’s flippers, and shaking your whole phone has the affect of tilting the machine. The Deep is fairly simple — it’s just the one pinball game, after all — but it’s well-made and distracting, just like a real pinball table.
Chainsaw Zombie Slaughter (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)
Casual play with violence and zombies, for free — it’s a recipe for awesome, and Chainsaw Zombie Slaughter is pretty close to that. You tilt your iPhone to control the protagonist, who has a chainsaw and a mission: kill zombies falling out of the building above. Don’t worry, it’s not as gross as all that, because Chainsaw Zombie Slaughter uses fun, cartoon graphics to mitigate the zombie slaughter. It all works pretty well.
As you slice up zombies, they’ll pile up beneath you, and your goal is to take out enough of them to climb to the top of the building and escape in a helicopter. If any zombies hit the ground, you can tap on either the left or the right of the main character to take them out with a backup pistol. Chainsaw Zombie is one of those addictive, low-key games you’ll like to use to kill time. It also includes support through Game Center for achievements and leaderboards.
Checkmate for Foursquare (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)
Avid Foursquare users will get a kick out of Checkmate, which you can fire-up and leave running in the background to manage your Foursquare check-ins without the need to pull your phone out and check-in to locations manually. After letting Checkmate know what your favorite locations are, it remembers, automatically checking you in when you arrive by using your iPhone’s GPS functions.
The app also lets you do a lot of the same things you can do with Foursquare. You can set your check-ins to appear “off the grid,” or automatically send your check-ins to Twitter and Facebook.
