We know — it’s Monday at the end of a run of holidays, and no one’s excited to restart regular life. That’s why today’s Download Discounts list includes three free offerings to help keep things easy, and two of them are meant to help you keep any weight-loss New Year’s resolutions you might have made at the start of 2011. Oh, and we tossed a free casual game on the list go give you something fun to do when you’re not working out.
Runkeeper Pro (iPhone) Free (was $9.99)
Runkeeper Pro is a sports GPS app which has been massively reduced from $9.99 to free for the entire month of January.
Runkeeper does activity tracking, using your iPhone’s GPS to monitor the distances and speeds at which you cover distance when you go for a run or walk (or whatever). You can overlay your route and GPS information on a Google Map and the app will also integrate in music from your iPhone’s iPod functionality to keep you motivated.
There are also audio cues to keep you informed of your distance milestones without having to look down at your phone, and you can set up interval workouts and track your pace so you know just how well you’re performing, and make changes as necessary.
OutFront (iPhone) Free (was $4.99)
OutFront also users your iPhone’s GPS capabilities to keep track of your runs, bike rides and other sports by monitoring your movements. The app uses your route information to help you determine all kinds of information about your workouts, based on what kind of activity you’re doing — including things like skiing and sailing — and your speed and distance covered.
The app has a ton of capabilities and information. It’ll overlay your stats on OpenStreet maps, let you save your personal activities so you can keep track of how your workouts change, and even share what you’ve been up to on Facebook and Twitter. The app is free through January, so download it now.
Ninja Town: Trees of Doom! (iPhone) Free (was $1.99)
Ninjas have places to be, but they can’t just jump into a car or climb a rope. No, for ninjas, climbing up forever in a vertical scroller game means jumping back and forth between trees, doing flips and dodging bad guys along the way.
Your principle controls in Ninja Town are tapping to jump between two trees that run parallel to one another. Each trunk is littered with flying demons or purple sap (or something) that can kill you, so jumping back and forth is your only way of avoiding certain ninja death. The higher you get, the higher your score, which is saved on ngmoco’s Plus+ network for other players to judge you by.
