At the top of the list is Ultimate Hangman, probably the best version of the letter-guessing word-search game you’ll ever see. Ultimate Hangman (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Yeah, it’s Hangman. That Hangman — the kids’ game with the letter-guessing and the drawing of an Old West execution. Except that Ultimate Hangman is dynamic, with the hangman animating as he’s being drawn into place (with an angry scowl at your failure and his punishment, by the way), with lots of different supported words of varying difficulties.
What’s great about Ultimate Hangman is that it’s open for a fair number of users. The app offers words in English, Dutch, French, Spanish, German and Portuguese, as well as Open Feint support so you can compare your scores against players from all over the world, speaking several different languages.
Pocket MBA – Cost Management: Accounting and Control Course (iPad) Free (was $9.99)
This iPad-based MBA course is meant to help students learn and prepare as they work through a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. There are a handful of Pocket MBA apps on sale right now, but Cost Management is free for a limited time.
The main portion of the app is something like a textbook, which is divided into sections and includes chapter-level tests that you can take to check your comprehension when you finish studying — it’ll even explain what you got right or wrong and why. You can bookmark portions of the text to return to later, search for specific terms in a built-in glossary and reference financial tables all from within the app. And when you’ve got to get ready for a test, the app provides you with interactive flashcards as a study aid.
Best of Italy: Condé Nast Traveler (iPad) Free (was $4.99)
Featuring 26 in-depth articles about the country, Best of Italy is an insider’s guide to getting the most out of a Roman holiday. The app includes articles written by Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winners and features a magazine format that makes it easy and engaging to peruse.
Among the information included in the app are a list of the best beaches in the country and a five-day itinerary to help you make sure you see and do everything worthwhile in Tuscany. There are also etiquette tips and a currency converter to help you with practical information, and interactive walking tours to give you an idea of what you should be checking out in Rome, Venice and Pompeii.
