More big developers have put their games on sale for Valentine’s Day, and we’ve got offerings from Gamevil and Trendy Entertainment up for today’s Download Discounts. Check out the Unreal Engine 3 game Dungeon Defenders, which mixes tower defense with action and role-playing elements, and Zenonia 2, another action-RPG with almost 100 quests to play through. Read on to get the skinny on both of those and more.
Dungeon Defenders (iPhone, iPad) $0.99 (was $2.99)
A mix of two genres, Dungeon Defenders starts out as a tower defense game. You purchase and set up defenses in each dungeon, to battle enemies that are attempting to get your crystal at the back of each level. Once your defenses are set up, the second genre kicks in — an action-role-playing game experience in which you actually run around, fighting enemies and gathering equipment to upgrade your character.
The best aspect about Dungeon Defenders is its online cooperative gameplay mode — in fact, the game encourages you to play this way with its drop-in, drop-out Internet multiplayer mode that’s supported over Wi-Fi. Great graphics with Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 (the same as was used for Infinity Blade) and a lot of customization adorn Dungeon Defenders, but it’s the opportunity to play with friends that makes it really cool.
Zenonia 2 (iPhone, iPad) $0.99 (was $2.99)
While you’re out downloading action-RPGs for your iPhone, check out Zenonia 2 (and the original Zenonia), which is part of developer Gamevil’s Valentine’s Day sale. With four classes of character to choose from, there’s a lot of variety and customization to be brought to the nearly 100 quests that players will face, spread over 158 maps.
You get three different difficulty modes to challenge yourself with, and once you get good at Zenonia 2, you can also challenge human opponents in the player vs. player arena mode using a Wi-Fi connection.
Imangi (iPhone) Free (was $1.99)
Word-game Imangi will probably remind you of something like Boggle or a word search. It uses touch controls and swiping to work — think Bejeweled — with its objective swapping style of play, but with letters to make words instead of jewels. Your goal is to swap letters around to form the biggest words you can, which results in the highest score.
That’s about all there is to it. As you make words, you’ll have to play your other words off them Scrabble-style. Imangi is free after two years in the App Store, and according to the developers behind it, it could stay that way for a while. So you’ve got nothing to lose in checking it out.
