Here’s a handful of free apps from over the weekend, including an interesting 3D puzzle game that will test your finger speed and spatial reasoning skills. Read up about it and the rest of our daily discounted offerings below.
Qbism (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
There’s not a lot to this 3D puzzler as far as rules, but Qbism gets pretty interesting, and a little addictive, in a hurry. The game provides you with an outline of a 3D shape that you rotate. In order to complete each puzzle, the player has to move cubes in three-dimensional space into the outline in order to fill them up completely. As time goes on, the shapes get more complex and more difficult to fill out.
There are more than 100 puzzles to get through, with three different game modes through which to attack them. The game tracks your stats, like time to complete each puzzle, and uses OpenFeint for achievements and leaderboards.
Gyroscope Surface Level (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)
Not much to say about this one, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t grab it while it’s cheap. The app uses your newer-generation iPhone and iPod’s gyroscope as a surface level.
You’ve probably seen apps that use the internal iPhone hardware to level out actual hardware projects — but Gyroscope does a good job rendering the level in all different possible directions, with an easy interface, and the perfect price of free.
StickWars (iPhone) Free (was $0.99)
Your city walls are under siege from an invading stick-figure army, and your only defense (at first) is your finger. In order to defend your city, you can grab enemy sticks and toss them in the air, slam them into the ground, and bash them into each other to defeat them. As you move through various waves of attackers, you’ll earn money to fortify your walls and build better defenses.
You can get StickWars for free for a limited time now that StickWars 2 has been released. The longer you play — and you can play until you’re defeated — the more abilities, defenses, prisoners of war and soldiers you can gather. Your enemies become, too: before long, you’ll be facing huge stick figures and Death Bunny hordes.
