The human body is under siege from viruses, and you’re commanding the deployment of antibodies in hopes of stopping them. The gameplay is pretty simple: as antibodies float down the screen, you flick antibodies up from the bottom in an attempt to target and destroy them.
Immuno is a little more complex and strategic than just demanding you hit what you’re aiming at, though. The “host” at the bottom of the screen that you get your antibodies from is always changing colors to match the viruses floating toward it — hit a virus of the same color, and you’ll destroy it. But bounce an antibody into a virus of a differing color and you’ll create a new virus. Immuno isn’t extremely complex, but throw in lots of viruses and even boss battles, and you’ll undoubtedly find its gameplay addictive.
Metal Gear Solid Touch (iPhone, iPad) $0.99 (was $7.99)
One of the biggest series in video games is Metal Gear Solid, and for a limited time, this iOS MGS offering has its price reduced. It follows the story of Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PlayStation 3, but instead of stealthy, sneaking gameplay like you would find in that title, players get a more action-oriented, shooting gallery approach.
Your goal in MGS Touch is to takeout enemies and bosses from your stationary position in the foreground on the screen. As enemies appear, you have a limited amount of time to aim and fire at them using touch controls. When the time runs you, you’ll need to raise your finger in order to duck behind cover and avoid getting shot up by your enemies. You’ll even fight bosses during the course of the game’s 20 levels.
Audubon Owls – A Field Guide to North American Owls (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Everything a bird lover would want to know about owls in North America is included in this app. The Audubon Society has covered 19 different owl species in its app, with all kinds of great information, like range maps to follow and owl calls in audio files to listen to. And of course, there are lots of photos of the various owl species on the continent.
The Audubon Society has also packed in a lot of other, extra content for the app. Puzzles and games are designed to increase your knowledge about owls by making it fun, and there are five different videos of owls as they appear in the wild. You can also search through the app’s information to determine what kind of owl it is you’re seeing when you happen across one.
