A trio of free apps to start the week are on offer in today’s Download Discounts. Start with Sudoku 2, which adds a competitive point-scoring element to the classic puzzle game, and then follow up with some high-speed endless running action (and lots of other stuff, too) in Rogue Runner. Once you’ve had some fun, you can tear into MyFont, an app that lets you create fonts out of your handwriting and even install them on your computer.
Sudoku 2 (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Highly addictive and challenging, sudoku is a great puzzle experience and a perfect fit for the iPhone or iPad in Sudoku 2. The game marries classic sudoku action — in which players fill in a grid filled with boxes that each must contain a number from one through nine, without repeating in the same row, column or square of nine — with an arcade-style point system. That allows you to share your glory on Sudoku 2’s OpenFeint leaderboards.
Sudoku 2 is designed to be a competitive experience with classic sudoku gameplay, and it delivers. In addition to points scored for speed based on how fast you can solve each row, column or square, the game’s leaderboards also track how many games you’ve won in a row and adds that to your stats.
Rogue Runner (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Yup, Rogue Runner is another side-scrolling endless running game with 8-bit graphics, and you’ve seen those before in the App Store. The difference is, this one’s got some variety: it’s a running game, in which you need to dodge enemies as you continue to pick up speed and score points for distance traveled, but it also includes vehicles and, occasionally, a top-down viewpoint.
What results is an endless running game that mixes up the experience and adds a little to the genre. You’ll fight through and dodge enemies, fight bosses, and run through a variety of environments. The game is also supported by OpenFeint, giving you access to achievements and leaderboards.
MyFont (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Font editor MyFont lets you use your iPhone or iPad to create your very own personalized font — your handwriting. The app lets you write letters with your fingertip on your iDevice’s touch screen, and it saves them and builds an actual word processor font out of them. Then you can use the font on your device or even pass it to your computer to use in documents and emails.
MyFont lets you create multiple fonts to personalize your text in whatever way you want. You can also add backgrounds and stickers to letters, and even upload the finished product to Facebook. And using the camera on your iPhone or iPad, you can cobble fonts and photos together to create postcards from within MyFont.
