Touted as 25 apps in one, the Vegas Way iPhone app ($1.99) should be the only Las Vegas-centered app you need. Unfortunately, the iPhone app falls short of delivering complete, useful information about Sin City.
One thing Vegas Way does right is its design. Emulating an iPhone home screen with rows of icons, the iPhone app helpfully divides its information into categories including: Stay, Dining, Events, Wi-Fi, Poker and Shopping. Within each category, users will find search-defining options or lists of nearby locations (the app relies on your GPS and displays closest to farthest or alphabetically). That’s about it for the iPhone app’s positive attributes end.
Information on each location is minimal, generally just including an address and phone number. Users won’t find ticket prices to shows within that tab, but will see some of that information under Events. Although tickets can be purchased in-app, it is usually through brokers such as StubHub, not the venue box office, where you might find a better price. Strangely, much of the app is devoted to a check-in function, which I can’t see any Foursquare devotee (and the like) ever using.
I’m not sure why developer Onederr, Inc. is charging for Vegas Way when its other city apps are free and vastly superior, but its $2 price tag especially sours my opinion of the product, especially when the content is little more than what’s available in the local Yellow Pages.
