Every once in a while, I come across an app that I don’t need, the occasional game that isn’t fun, or a productivity tool that is not productive. Today, a precedent has been set. I reviewed an app that did nothing, and did it poorly. PandoraBox by Lee Sunja (99 cents in the App store) is the worst app I have ever downloaded, and to make a bad thing worse, it cost me 99 cents. Do not download this app.
Tap the app, and you’ll be on a screen with a skewed, blurry, poorly rendered picture of a mediocre portrayal of the mythical Pandora’s Box. Below it, you will have a button that says “open.” Tap it, and you will be presented with one of three pictures – also skewed and poorly rendered. These pictures are semi-freakish in nature. Perhaps they’re intended to scare the person who opens the box. Instead, the users of this app will walk away scratching their heads.
At the top of the screen, with the pictures, is a button that says “back.” When you push it, if you hold your finger there, it will change to say “Push me, too.”
Now, that is all that this app appears to be. There isn’t any more apparent content. If that is all this app is, it’s the worst app I have ever touched. However, it seems as though this app might be one of those “hidden function” apps. After experimenting with it for a bit, I was unable to activate the hidden tethering or turn-your-iPhone-into-a-light-saber functionality.
I hope, for Mr. Sunja’s sake, that there is more to this app. If you think the gamble is worth the 99 cents, give it a try.
