From house and techno to ambient and trance, there’s a wide variety of electronic music to be heard and streaming radio station Digitally Imported has now launched an app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad to give you your electronic fix. Although users can currently access di.fm and stream tunes through Safari, the free app makes finding your favorite sound from more than 35 channels easier.
Users can upgrade to premium accounts in-app for $4.99 a month, or $13.99 for three months. There is also a 24-hour trial available, and longer plans available through the Digitally Imported web site. The upgrade boasts commercial-free music, an ad-free app, desktop access and higher-quality audio. Basic users are only able to stream music up to 64K AAC, but I didn’t notice any sound deterioration through the tiny iPhone speakers.
After you’ve chosen a station, you’ll be able to see the artist and track name of the current selection, as well as the three previously played tracks. Tapping the bottom buffering bar displays how much data has been received over wifi or 3G and Edge, so users without unlimited data can easily track their consumption. Digitally Imported Radio also supports background streaming and is a must-see for electronic music lovers.
