Decision Maker by Bloomberg Sports is simple, yet deep

Now that football season is under way, that means fantasy football is on the minds of most males in America. The quandary that comes every week for all of these people is which wide receiver should they start in their flex spot, or if a breakout player will have another great game next week. For $4.99, Decision Maker by Bloomberg Sports helps the avid fantasy football team manager make that decision.

Every week, fantasy football managers have to make tough decisions, and normally it seems that you always make the wrong one. But with Bloomberg Sports’ B-score system, this great iPad app will help you quantify the intangibles that you can see, but can’t numerically compare. Based on player performance, team support, opponent matchups and game conditions, this app calculates a B-score for every player, helping to level the playing field for all the stars, thus helping you make an educated decision on which player to start.

This app tracks the player over his past 32 games, and also shows you deep stats, like what his opponents’ run/pass defense is like. These helpful stats and graphs will add some meat to your plate of decisions. In order to see whether this app will actually help me make the right decisions, I used it for my fantasy team this week, and compared it with what the Yahoo sports predictor told me. After this week’s games, the Decision Maker only made one more correct decision for me than what Yahoo did, and gave me a few wrong decisions. Thus, it performed relatively poorly this week compared with other predictor engine, but this is a very small sample size over one week and for only a handful of players.

Overall, I’m sure this app will help all managers make tough decisions. The only downside I see is that opponent matchups should be more heavily weighted, whereas team support should be less weighted. One last suggestion I would have would be to allow users to input and save their fantasy teams, so that every week they could compare all of their B-scores, instead of having to run one-on-one comparisons over and over again.
