Currency, a simple and easy-to-use exchange-rate calculator, is a must-have when downloading iPhone apps for traveling abroad. Because the app is free, you won’t need a currency converter to pay for the download.
Currency allows users to pick several currencies from a list of about 90, and then stack them on top of one another on its main screen. The calculator converts a single number, such as an amount in U.S. dollars, to its equivalent in as many currencies as are listed. So if you want to see what one dollar is worth in yen, British pounds, and euros, select those three currencies and enter an amount. The app shows you all three conversions on the same screen.
If you’re carrying British pounds and need to know dollars, click on pounds, type in whatever you have in your pocket, and press the calculation button. You’ll see the equivalent in dollars (and yen and euros, if you still have those on your list).
Currency does not require reception or an Internet connection to make calculations – meaning it works just about everywhere, at any time.
While the app doesn’t do much of anything else, for something that’s free, it doesn’t have to. Currency calculates exchanges quickly and easily, and that’s what matters. It’s efficient, can be updated on the fly, and makes keeping track of money while traveling extremely simple.
