iPad’s large screen makes it ideal for manipulating photo images, so the developers behind the popular iPhone app PhotoShake! are capitalizing with app PhotoShake! for iPad! (sadly, non-universal).
For me, PhotoShake!’s bread and butter is the easily manipulated collage options, which let users combine several photos into a single image ideal for sharing. Your first order of business in PhotoShake! will be choosing the type of photo you wish to create (single image, grid, multi, etc.) and its layout. Next, you’ll import your images, either from your iPad album, over Wi-Fi from a computer or from Flickr or Picasa. You can choose the placement of your photos via the slide option, or allow PhotoShake! to input them randomly by shaking your device. Then the real fun can begin,
There are myriad options for customization in PhotoShake! You can change the frame, adding patterns, colors or pinking options; add effects to individual cells, such as sepia or black and white; or add speech balloons and stickers. Photo cells can be zoomed, rotated, and flipped. Honestly, there are too many options to fully discuss, which is a good thing. I found the interface to take some getting used to, however, and had to give a few options multiple tries just to get the movement accurate (resizing and moving stickers, for instance.) I also thought the default image size didn’t take full advantage of the iPad’s screen (it does use pinch-to-zoom on the edit level, though). I would recommend saving your work often, because, at one point, the app crashed, and I lost my work entirely.
When working with the multi-photo theme, you’ll want to be sure to select all of the photos you want included from the start — or at least the correct number. I did not see a way to add images to the collage (grid photo was an exception to this) once it had been created.
PhotoShake! offers a number of social networking options, including integration for Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, WordPress and Tumblr. You can save your photos to your album, or export via Wi-Fi. Images can also be printed with Air Print.
