Did you know you can have a registry for something other than a wedding? This was news to me, but the Wedding & Gift Registry by Crate & Barrel app comes prepared to assist in setting up a gift registry for a wedding, commitment ceremony, anniversary housewarming, a birthday or even just a simple generic celebration. If you want some presents from C&B for nearly any reason, this app is an easy buy.
The only issue at hand with Wedding & Gift Registry by Create & Barrel is how invasive it is when you first open the app. To begin browsing you have to create a registry, which means supplying your name, address, email, and phone number to the app. I’m not one to shy away from sending my personal details, but it felt like Crate & Barrel were rushing me into a relationship of which I wasn’t even sure I wanted to be part. Maybe this app works like a metaphor for the party you’re registering for, though.
Commitment issues aside, everything after the set-up process is a dream. The app comes with ideas for gifts you can register for, but items can be searched via a standard text search, barcode scanner or a voice-activated search option. Once an item has been added to the registry it appears on a separate tab with a note on whether someone has purchased it or not. If you’re the impatient type, you can even skip the whole registry bit and add the item you want right to your cart so you’re not waiting endlessly for that five-piece place setting you really want now.
Certainly the Wedding & Gift Registry isn’t for everyone. If you don’t like Crate & Barrel you’re probably out, and depending on your friend circle, a registry for your 20-something birthday may appear a little odd to your friends. But if you’ve got the people to power-shop for you, this is a sleek and efficient way to get everything you’ve always wanted from Crate & Barrel.
