Cook Easy TV: See How to Make Healthy Meals is astonishingly basic — and it’s not basic in a good way. Cook Easy TV is an odd smattering of short, YouTube videos that talk about food. That’s very literally it: A menu with thumbnails and titles that, when tapped, will connect you to YouTube.
The video selections are odd for a number of reasons. To start, there are only 27 of them. They vary from buffalo wings, to spaghetti, to cranberry sauce, and to one that’s just on healthy food and isn’t a recipe tutorial at all.
The app doesn’t automatically orient itself, so you have turn your iPod or iPhone horizontal in order to view the menu right-side up. You can, however, rank the videos and send them to friends if you find something you like. Some of the videos feel pretty dated, and to be useful they really should be paired with recipe text or at least an ingredient list, but they’re not. It’s not that Cook Easy TV is bad, but it’s probably too basic to be anything more than a short-term utility — if that.
