Devil May Cry 4 Refrain is not exactly a perfect port of a console game. After all, how could it be? Lacking the graphic power of the PS3, the simple textures and environments of this iPhone version look like something more suited for the original Playstation. But visuals aside, Refrain offers a simpler, streamlined way to beat people up, and does so quite decently.
Decently is pretty much the optimum word here. As mentioned, the visuals are more or less passable, but the controls also function just well enough. Moving your character with the digital analog stick is no problem, and attacking is swift and steady, but there are other commands, mostly the combos you earn through extended playing, that are more difficult to pull off on the iPhone.

Similarly, there are a few app-specific commands where you’re made to tap or hold down on parts of the screen that don’t produce the desired effect.
These problems are not gamebreakers, just little reminders that you’re playing a mobile version of a rather detailed console game.
That said, there are elements here that make the game a bit easier. A fairly forgiving continue system, allowing you to pick up right where you die, should alleviate some frustration with the controls. Also an on-screen map should help orient you in the right direction — a definite plus on a tiny screen.
