CNNMoney.com’s app keeps users above water

With the economy circling down the drain, there is really no such thing as information overload when it comes to staying on top of your finances. CNNMoney.com’s aptly named iPhone application CNNMoney.com serves as a handy, albeit imperfect, aggregator of all of your financial news and information.

The application features a nice mix of top headlines and breaking-news alerts. CNNMoney.com also features video and nearly real-time market and stock data that is delivered in a clean, no-nonsense package. The application is essentially a carbon copy of the corresponding Web site’s front page. If you like CNNMoney.com, you will like its mobile counterpart.

You can personalize the app by tracking all of your stocks and having them compiled in a handy portfolio. The main drawback is that not all of the information it delivers is provided in real time. While a quirk like this is an annoyance for most applications, it can be a deal-breaker for financial-oriented sites that rely on up-to-date information. So don’t make any day-trades without verifying when that information was reported.  If you boot up on a Monday morning, you may see stock quotes from the previous Friday.
