Club Lakers is a Los Angeles Lakers fan forum that is no better or worse than any number of sports forums on the Internet. I understand the purpose of these forums, and have even been known to frequent a few that relate to my beloved St. Louis Cardinals.
But I don’t understand is the Club Lakers Mobile app. While the app is affiliated with the Web site, it doesn’t provide access to the forums. Instead, you get an odd collection of Lakers-related content, which doesn’t make it as worthy of a download as other team-specific iPhone apps.
The app includes a news section that is actually Laker-related Twitter feeds. There is some actual news – such as beat reporter’s feeds and links from the team’s Web site – but for the most part, “news” comes from players and others connected to the team, such as Jeanie Buss and Rick Fox. They also show up in a weird order, so posts from four or five days ago may be at the top of the list while a post one minute old may be at the bottom.
Sadly, that’s the best part of Club Lakers Mobile. Other sections include a schedule, videos, pictures and a link to the Club Lakers blog. According to the apps description, videos will be updated as the season goes on, but as of now there are three videos. The pictures section has no team photos, but instead photos of the dance team; the blog has two postings.
I don’t understand what this app is supposed to accomplish. I would say this is a great app for Lakers’ fans but it doesn’t even provide access to the Club Lakers Web site.
The app’s maker, Apptango, has also released the app for the Chicago Bulls, Portland Trail Blazers, Detroit Pistons and San Antonio Spurs. But given my experience with the Lakers app, I can’t imagine any of them to be worthwhile.
So even if you are a fan of one of those pro hoops teams, just pass on these apps.
