Chances are you have your mind made up whether to purchase the free Kinetic Balls iPhone game well before you’re reading this review. Either you desire to have a set of kinetic balls on your iPhone, or you don’t. After spending some time with this iPhone “game”, I can rest safely knowing I wasn’t missing anything living without the Kinetic Balls iPhone game.
If you haven’t actually experienced these things before, kinetic balls are sets of balls hung by string. They stand still until a person nudges one of the far left or far right balls, knocking it into the adjacent ball, the force of this hit causes the other far ball to get knocked out and rebound back, hitting its adjacent ball, starting the sequence all over again. All the while, the balls make a grating clanking sound that you might hear when two metal balls strike each other. In essence, they simply demonstrate kinetic energy.
To be fair to this iPhone game, that experience is recreated faithfully here. The loud clanking, the five balls in a row, all of that is in the Kinetic Balls iPhone game. As a bonus, there are even additional skins that make the balls change color, turn them into basketballs (which comes with a much more pleasant rubber on rubber sound), coconuts (which for some reason brings back the metal clanging sound), and finally, and most oddly, unhappy faces that yell when they’re hit.
The only one of those choices that won’t give you a headache after five minutes are the basketballs, but even that seems strange. I can’t think of a single reason to download this iPhone game unless you wanted to easily demonstrate the principles of kinetic energy to someone, or you really, really love kinetic balls. Everyone else, steer clear.
