If I went to school at Hogwarts, I would certainly fail out my first semester. At least, I’m basing that on my performance on casting spells with the Harry Potter Spells app ($4.99).
At first, this app was really super cute in a wizard sort of way. I searched for my perfect wand. The Sorting Hat declared me loyal and thrust me into the Hufflepuff house. Then, I got stuck on the first spell.
I don’t know how Harry and his friends mastered wizardry. The app kept telling me I was “too slow.” After what seemed like the millionth “too slow,” I was casting very un-Potter-like cussing spells of my own as I begged my boyfriend to help me figure out what I was doing wrong. Of course, his engineering prowess allowed him to master the game immediately. Needless to say, I still can’t get the hang of the hand movements required to master the spells.
You can tell the mystical app was painstakingly planned out by its creators, as it’s a fan’s dream come true to master wizardry like Harry. And, younger Potter fans will love the duel function, in which you can challenge others to a spell casting match. But, if you can’t master the hand gestures like me, this app will be rendered useless.
