So, you browse Craigslist and eBay and you shop on Amazon, but you aren’t totally comfortable selling something on the web quite yet. Needly (free in the App store) for iOS devices can change that. Let’s face it, it’s time to start selling all that stuff you’ve been meaning to get rid of. When it comes to selling on the web, this app brings a whole new definition to the term “hassle-free.”
Before you start, jump on your computer so you can get the registration part out of the way. Go to www.needly.com and either make a new account or connect Needly with your Facebook account. Once that’s done, tap the app to get started. You’ll be greeted by the title screen with two large buttons: How Does This Work? and Get Started. I didn’t even get the question out before it showed me where to find the answer.
Tap How Does This Work? for a brief description of how to use the app and the motivation behind it’s creation. The app is a practical expression of buying and selling goods and services based around one’s needs. Post the things you need and how much you’re willing to spend. Post the items that you need to get rid of or services that you offer and how much you want to sell them for. Now you’re part of the Needly network! It’s as easy as that. Tap Get Started to jump into posting items or services.
Once you’re into the Get Started button and you’ve connected Needly with your Facebook, you are ready to post. At the top of the page, you have three tabs: Items, Needs and Alerts. The Items tab contains the items or services you’re selling. The Needs tab has all of the items or services you need. The Alerts tab is, of course, where your notifications are located. Posting is as easy as filling in a small amount of information and taking some pics or video of the item/service you want to sell. It’s a very simple process, so much so that it had me looking around my room for things to sell.
The only thing about the app is that it’s not standalone from it’s web site counterpart. It is more of a utility of the web site. There’s no way to browse through items within the app itself. The app is basically a Needly “inbox” to keep track of your items and offers on them and a place to easily post new items. The app is excellently put together and easy to use, but I wish there was a little more functionality. Overall, I liked it, and there is a lot of potential for future versions to be even better.
