Burger Queen makes fast food challenging, fun

The Burger Queen iPhone game feels a little goofy. What little story is included isn’t well translated into English, and one might not expect to have fun working at a virtual fast-food restaurant. But as Burger Queen’s action picks up, it gets challenging — and a little addictive, and it’s worth its 99-cent price tag.

As the Burger Queen, you’re stuck running a franchise store called Burger K. Your job is to complete each day by earning the most you can in tips by quickly filling customers’ orders. You do this by tapping various ingredients to make food and then tapping the customers when they ask for that specific item. It’s extremely simple, especially at the start.

The game grows more complex and interesting as more and more food is introduced. There are different varieties of burgers for you to make; before long, you’ll be adding fries and drinks to orders as well. Soon, the store requires you to juggle lots of different things – such as keeping an eye on the fryer so your French fries don’t burn while you churn out burgers and try to keep a drink handy, since the soda fountain takes a few seconds to create each drink order.

It gets hectic, and Burger Queen is most fun when it requires you to plan ahead and manage your time efficiently.

This isn’t the game that blows you away, but the simplistic play make the slowly building challenge feel manageable and enjoyable. Burger Queen engages your attention just enough to make it a good time-killer.
