Bethesda has announced that Starfield has reached an impressive milestone of 15 million players since its launch in September 2023. The game surpassed the initial popularity of previous Bethesda titles, such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4, with six million players on its release day. The debut on Game Pass significantly contributed to this surge in popularity.
In a statement, Bethesda expressed their appreciation for the players’ feedback and their commitment to improving the gaming experience.
Bethesda adds Deimog, enhances stability
To further enhance the gameplay, a new patch has been released, introducing several important changes and additions.
One of the key features of the update is the option for Creations by Verified Creators to be achievement-friendly. This means players can now enjoy user-generated content without sacrificing their progress in earning achievements. However, achievements will not retroactively unlock on previous game saves with Creations, even if those Creations are now achievement-friendly.

Despite the success of the base game, the first Starfield expansion, Shattered Space, released at the end of September, has received mixed reviews. It currently holds a ‘mostly negative’ user review rating on Steam, despite being billed as a return to form for the studio. The latest patch notes include general performance and stability improvements, an uncapped frame rate option for Xbox Series X, and various fixes for console commands, quest objectives, and other gameplay elements.
Bethesda has released Update 1.14.74 for Starfield, which focuses on enhancing Xbox Series X performance and addressing over 30 bugs related to gameplay and quests. This update, previously available in beta form, aims to improve the overall gaming experience, reflecting Bethesda’s ongoing commitment to refining the title despite varied criticisms. Starfield has been a controversial game since its release in 2023.
While it received positive critical reception with a score of 85 on OpenCritic, it faced substantial criticism for its vast yet seemingly shallow open-world universe. Bethesda has been working to address these issues by regularly releasing updates to enhance the overall experience. The new update reintroduces an uncapped frame rate option for Xbox Series X, significantly improving the game’s performance.
In addition to stability and frame rate improvements, the update fixes bugs in several quests, such as “What Remains,” “A House Divided,” and “Zealous Overreach.” These updates have generally been well-received, with players praising previous additions like city maps and land vehicles. However, the game’s DLC, “Shattered Space,” was criticized for its short duration and initial bugs, failing to impress critics and players. Despite this, Bethesda continues to polish the base game.
Former Bethesda developers have speculated about a potential sequel, Starfield 2. Bruce Nesmith, a former system designer, mentioned that while a sequel is likely, it won’t be released until after The Elder Scrolls 6, potentially in the mid to late 2030s. In the meantime, players can expect ongoing updates and DLCs to keep the game engaging.
The official patch notes for Update 1.14.74 include general performance and stability improvements, the return of the uncapped frame rate option for Xbox Series X users, consistent display of the Message of the Day on Xbox, and fixes for various issues related to console commands, achievements, companion interactions, stealth mechanics, and quest-specific problems. Starfield, set in the year 2330, is the first new universe in 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4. In the game, humanity has ventured beyond our solar system, settling new planets and living as a spacefaring people.
Players join Constellation, the last group of space explorers, to navigate the Settled Systems in Bethesda’s biggest and most ambitious game. Overall, Bethesda’s efforts are focused on delivering a smooth and enriched experience to players. The company remains dedicated to addressing player feedback and enhancing Starfield through these regular updates.
