Best Food Apps for iPad 2010

iSPICE

iSpice is a great app to learn about spices. A good mixture of the familiar and the exotic, with background information and recipes. A great companion for your digital kitchen!

Dishfinders

This app was recommended by Robert Scoble and I’ve found it to be pretty handy. Dishfinders lets you find recommended eateries based on the best dishes someone has experienced. So you can use it as a guide and put in your own entries as well. Epicurious does kind of the same thing but Dishfinders has a more personal feel to it.

The Photo Cookbook – Quick & Easy

The Photo Cookbook’s unique because it shows you step by step dish creation in an intuitive interface. Recipes by category in panes that individually scroll, meaning you line up the first, second, and third courses along with desert. Lots of different cuisines represented means a lot of fun cooking via iPad!

BigOven: 350,000+ Recipes and Grocery List

Great recipe app, with beautiful photography and a clean interface. Used it to look up some chicken tikka masala recipes. Tons of ethnic recipes!

GoMealsHD

I like the flexibility of GoMealsHD as it lets you enter in what you’ve eaten for the day and then tells you your intake and if it’s over or under what it should be. It also indexes a great online database of foods and dishes from many restaurants as well, which can make things worse when you find out exactly what you’ve eaten that day! It’s the holidays right now so results can be eye opening!

Good way for parents to get an assessment of what their kids are consuming in a given day too!

Entering from restaurant pick lists is easy but entering your own prepared foods is not, since you have to do it based on creating a grocery list. Improving this part of the app will be very helpful to customers in the future.

Nice simplified UI, not too cluttered, not too minimalistic.
