Berzerk Ball iPhone game an improvement on old Flash favorite

It appears the developers of Berzerk Ball have put Internet nerds on notice with their terrific endless app game, where the end goal involves smashing a smug geek thousands of feet in the air with all manners of weapons.

Luckily there’s not an app that transfers a character’s pain to the individual dishing it out, because Berzerk Ball’s geek not only is smashed by a variety of strong warrior-styled men and women, but he also encounters gigantic robots intent on throwing him to the moon, bees stinging to keep him afloat, and cannons to assist his flight patterns.

This is an ingenious app that builds mightily on the concept of a flash game I remember playing back in high school where the player controlled a yeti that attempted to smash a penguin as far as it could.

Were Berzerk Ball a simple recreation of that, it probably would still be worth the dollar, but there’s so much more to this game. As your geek flies through the air, he collects cash that can be spent on items that might, for instance, increase the time he spends in the air after a hit. Additionally, each hit gains the player experience points that can be used to purchase upgrades, like stronger hitting ability.

While it’s a blast to build up your original character to insane heights, enabling you to nail your geek to some stratospheric heights, there are also several characters players can unlock within Berzerk Ball. I’m not sure the characters have an advantage over each other, but they do provide an opportunity to let you play through the game from the start, with your meager abilities, if you so desire.

If you’ve ever wanted to give your local comic book guy a taste of the business, Berzerk Ball is a must-own app. It’s a blast to play, and has enough variety to keep you coming back.
