I am not sure how many people leave their beers sitting outside the fridge before frantically deciding they absolutely need a cold one as quickly as possible. For instance, I throw mine in the fridge when I get home from the store, so it’s not really much of an issue. But for those of you out there who have beers lying around in warm spaces, Beer Timer will satisfying your strange habit quite perfectly.
Using Beer Timer you can work out exactly how long it takes to perfectly cool a room temperature beer in your freezer. You’ll get a cold beer in a short amount of time without ever worrying about over-freezing or the cans shattering in the freezer.
Now it’s not by magic, of course. Beer Timer has specific set times for cans and bottles of various sizes, as well as differing times depending on the sort of beer you’re drinking. For instance, it’ll take about 33 minutes to cool a 12-ounce pale ale, whereas you’ll only need 15 minutes to get a porter to the same point.
An engineer friend of mine explained that it has to do with the amount of alcohol in the specific styles of beers that alters the time allotment, but I’m no scientist so I can’t vouch for that. I can tell you that it is fairly accurate. I gave it a shot with the pale ale and dark lager times and came away pleased, even though, under normal circumstances, my beers would’ve been finely chilled from just hanging out in the fridge anyway.
If you’re a beer-drinking daredevil who doesn’t want to muck up your fridge with tons of beer, this app will definitely solve a dilemma or two for you. If you’re like the rest of us, there’s probably still a good party trick in this app somewhere.
Either way, Beer Timer makes the grade, and the single-page interface is easy to figure out. Now if they’d just add a setting for freezer temps!
