While enthusiasts will find lots of interesting information in Beer Brands, eventually they will discover that the app is all foam and little substance.
Bear Brands includes nearly 8,000 labels of beer, as well as information about what foods go well with each. In addition, the app details what temperature each beer should be served, where they are brewed, and what makes them unique. But for all that info, Beer Brands just isn’t that useful.
The app is free, so it’s tough to complain too much. When it comes down to determining whether you should download Beer Brands, know that ultimately the app is little more than a series of beer labels. It includes a lot of information, but the majority of the app is devoted to reorganizing that information into different groups.
For example, you can type in the name of a beer, or search the huge list in alphabetical order. If you’re in the mood for a certain kind of beer, you can search for pale ales or Pilsners, the categories providing various brands you could try. Beer Brands will even present you with a brand of beer at random.
But that’s it. The app tells a lot about beer, but not so much that a layperson will feel like a beer aficionado. Some of the information – which kind of mug to serve the beer in, for example – is somewhat useless as the suggestion is usually the same for every beer.
The app could also use some kind of tracker, so users can tick off beers from the list, or make notes about which brands they like.
Without features such as those, Beer Brands is a bit lackluster.
