With cloud storage services proliferating, amongst them Apple’s Photostream, Dropbox for iOS has been updated to allow you to automatically upload photos and videos stored on your device.
Via Wi-Fi or cellular data the service pushes photos from an iPhone or iPad to the cloud. From there they can be viewed in a photo gallery of sorts. You can check out your pictures, tag them, download them to your iOS camera roll, delete them and, of course, share them. Upload size is now unlimited.
One great perk is you can earn extra free storage. Dropbox will give those who opt-in to the photo service up to 3GB of additional space for free, accrued in 500MB increments. Photographers should note, however, that Dropbox converts all images to .JPG files to conserve bandwidth.
Another big change is that Dropbox is apparently phasing out folders in favour of links. Existing folders will be preserved, but it will no longer be possible to add new ones soon.
Dropbox is free, as is the upgrade to version 1.5 for exiting users.
