There are more indications that Apple is getting ready to transition out of its TV “hobby” and offer a fully operational television set later this year. Perhaps as soon as June’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
As just reported by Reuters, Apple is in talks with EPIX (a conglomeration of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, MGM and Viacom’s Paramount Pictures) about rights for video streaming.
Says Reuters:
One of the sources told Reuters that any discussions would apply to its set-top box and also to upcoming devices that stream content. Apple is widely expected to unveil a full-fledged TV product later this year or in early 2013 to drive its next phase of growth and potentially revolutionize the industry.
Of course you don’t have to wait for a fully baked Apple TV to enjoy wonderful video discovery apps on your set-top device right now. Thanks to the magic of AirPlay Mirroring, there are plenty of great options to choose from.
