There is an intense amount of content crammed into the iPhone app Art, with more on the way. Sheer volume makes the Education category app worth the $1.99 it will run you.
Art includes background and biographical information on 80 artists, as well as photos of their works. The app is a steal for anyone who wants to learn about art in easy-to-process, bite-sized doses.
Art lets you page through artist bios, read up on them, then jump immediately to pictures of their works. The program has nearly 5,000 pictures.
The app also keeps track of your favorite paintings by adding them to a special category that you can access from the main menu anytime.
You can also find the monetary value of artists’ works, including Jackson Pollock’s No. 5, which sold for $140 million
Art will even quiz you on the artists and paintings you’re learning about.
The app is fairly functional, and its developers, ADS Software Group Inc., plan to release updates to make it even better. Its only drawback is the amount of hard-drive space it requires, but the low cost and huge amount of information found in Art makes the trade well worth it.
