Aqua Globs HD brings one-eyed line-drawing chaos to the iPad

Line-drawing games really exploded on the iPhone and, due to the larger screen, have become even more popular on the iPad. Aqua Globs HD ($1.99) is one of those games, and it’s just as chaotic, fast-paced and addicting as the iPhone version.

The object of the game is to combine globs of the same color by drawing a line from one to the other. Once globs are combined, they grow into larger globs that must be combined again before they disappear. You earn points for each successful combination of globs, and if you do it fast enough, you’ll take advantage of the point multipliers. The concept is really simple, but the challenging part is trying to connect globs while there are many of them on the screen at the same time. If globs of different colors touch each other, you lose one of only three lives that you are allotted. After three errors, the game is over. It gets very chaotic when you have a ton of globs on the screen and you try and keep them from bumping into a different color.

There are also some tools to help you along the way. Green globs can touch any other color glob without destroying it. There is also a special power-up that allows you to clear all the globs off the screen at once, just in case things get too overwhelming for you. This power-up may only be used once you’ve eliminated enough globs to fill the bar at the top of the screen.

The actually mechanics of drawing a line from one glob to another are fairly straightforward. However, I did find it a bit difficult to accurately connect globs when the pace of the game ramped up. You really have to be accurate with your tapping to successfully connect the globs.

Aqua Globs HD has all qualities that make for a fun and addicting arcade game. The graphics and sound are adequate, but it’s the gameplay that will keep you coming back for more. While not perfect, it’s absolutely a game worth checking out.
