Eric Swayne (@eswayne), from Denton, TX, is Director of Social Analytics at M/A/R/C Research. He loves social media, great coffee and original recipe Dr Pepper. Check out his lists of apps that do amazing things with the iPhone’s mic and apps guaranteed to keep a preschooler distracted, or his top apps.
1. Tell us about yourself – where you live, your job, things you like to do.
I’m the Director of Social Analytics and Insights for a marketing research firm, so I live and work in social media every day. I live in Denton, TX, which is about the best college town short of Austin. When I’m not on the intertubes, I’m probably playing with my two kids out at the zoo, because it’s their favorite place!
2. Which iOS device or devices do you own?
Got an iPhone 4, holding off to see what the iPad 3 is going to look like before I get in there. I chose iOS devices because they’re at the forefront of innovation – every new startup (at least for now) has an iPhone app first.
3. Is there a particular category of apps that interests you the most?
Of course, the social media apps are going to be my biggest interest, but lately I’ve been fascinated by apps that use mobile devices to connect us in new ways. FriendThem, for example lets you see who’s around you and friend them on Facebook – simple, mobile, and really powerful.
4. What are your top apps and why?
Evernote – My external brain.
Wunderlist – My other external brain, the part that reminds me to do the stuff I should be doing.
Echofon and TweetDeck – My iPhone Twitter clients of choice. I use Echofon for day-to-day, and TweetDeck to follow Twitter chats.
YouVersion Bible – Absolutely AMAZING bible app. Can’t believe how much they give to users for free.
Instapaper – My final external brain, the one that remembers good stuff I just read. 🙂
5. What apps are popular among your colleagues and friends?
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SoundTracking.
6. Give an example of a time an app was truly useful to you.
Basically planned my entire Valentine’s Day date with my wife while I was at Target using Yelp, OpenTable and text.
7. What other Appolicious member do you admire the most and why?
Elysa – she’s EVERYWHERE killing it all the time.
8. Do you have URL’s you’d like to share?
Yes of course!
Blog – http://eswayne.com/
Twitter – http://twitter.com/eswayne
LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/eswayne
9. Anything else you’d like to share with the Appolicious audience?
I love the lists on Appolicious – perfect places to find everything I need for a given topic. Keep building them!
