Apple is working on an app that might make it nearly impossible for you to find excuses and avoid the gym.
PatentlyApple.com reported that on April 28, 2011, a new patent revealed Apple’s plans to provide the iPhone (or other wireless networked devices) with a fitness center-oriented application that will connect fitness center servers and gym goers. The web site explains, “Apple’s patent describes the possibility that the iPhone will one day include a single, seamless application that will introduce new customers to a fitness center and motivate these new customers to keep returning to the fitness center as active members.”
The new app is a combination of gym buddy meets personal trainer and aims to motivate users to get to the gym, enhance their workouts while there, analyze results post-workout, and even prompt users to return to the gym if their commitment has lapsed. A central hub including scheduling abilities and personal goal facilitation, the app gives fitness fanatics everything they need for a successful and consistent workout plan right at their fingertips.
With the new app, finding gym classes and reserving spots in those classes as well as booking a personal training session are a breeze. The plans also reveal that the app will not only communicate with exercise equipment while working out, but will also provide tools for analyzing a user’s past workout information. Gym goers can even conduct financial transactions with the app including paying for membership fees or even drinks at the facility juice bar or music they heard in a fitness class they attended.
PatentlyApple.com further elucidates, “Apple’s Fitness Center App is well designed to cover all aspects of a workout including stats gathered from next generation smart equipment right down to the inclusion of a unique social networking component that will work within a particular fitness center or within your city limits to help you find a workout buddy and/or to stir on competition to get you motivated.”
In addition to operating on the iPhone, the app will also be compatible with the iPod touch to supply the motivation, scheduling, and attribute/goal stats users need to stay informed and on track.
