Like Father’s Day and the dawn of summer, June is usually the time we can celebrate the introduction of a new iPhone. Not this year, according to a report by Reuters.
“Apple’s next-generation iPhone will have a faster processor and will begin shipping in September,” three people with direct knowledge of the company’s supply chain told Reuters. “The production of the new iPhone will start in July/August and the smartphone will look largely similar to the iPhone 4.”
So there you have it, for now.
While Apple (AAPL), of course, will not confirm rumors of a September iPhone 5 launch (or virtually anything else floating in the press or on the blogs), the one thing we do know for certain is there will be scores of rumors about the next iPhone’s release date, functionality, color and operating system between now and when it finally comes out.
Recent rumors have come from suppliers who likely have informed knowledge of the production process and timetable. However, Apple runs on its own rarefied timetable. Since 2007, June at the Worldwide Developer’s Conference has been the time Apple has released a new iconic product to the world.
If not the iPhone 5, what will it be? My money is on a new and improved Apple TV.
