If you are an Apple enthusiasts who waits in hours-long lines outside the Apple store each time the company releases a new product, then feed your obsession and download the Apple-Rumors app. But if you’re a tech world insider, the kind who has the new product delivered to your desk, then you probably won’t learn anything from this app that you didn’t hear yesterday.
Apple-Rumors provides a nice mix of product and market news, with kernels of information such as Apple agreeing to replace iPod Nanos for Japanese customers because the originals were catching on fire. There is also information on popular iPhone applications, such as which have been updated and which have been pulled from the store because of “user confusion.”
There is also plenty of internal human resources gossip, including the recent departure of Mark Papermaster, and a 60th birthday announcement for Steve Wozniak. But the app is also lacking in a couple of areas. There are no heads-up on sale items, incentives or promotions – and who doesn’t love a deal? And the app itself is a bit dry. There is a lot of overlap in the various categories – Apple-News, iOS News and Mac News – and it lacks the style that Apple has built its reputation on.
