Apple’s iOS 18 update has sparked controversy among users since its release on Monday. Many have expressed frustration with the new features, calling it the “biggest downgrade in history.”
Today is official iOS 18 rollout day! iPhone users can officially put homescreen icons wherever they want now. Huge.

One of the most criticized changes is the photo app.
My main issue with the new iOS 18 Photos app removing the tab bar is that I can't scroll to the top, and then with another tap, pop to the root view (back action) with the same button (the active tab bar button item). Also, it is odd to see a 'x' close button in the lower right… pic.twitter.com/tZsk7E6A04

Users have described its new “single view” with a large photo grid and “collections” menu as nauseating and difficult to navigate.
“iOS 18’s photo app change makes me overall want to throw up,” one user complained on social media. Another contentious feature is the ability to lock and hide apps on the home screen.

While designed to protect sensitive information, some users believe it could be used by unfaithful partners to conceal illicit activities.
“iOS 18 update was designed by a cheater for sure,” one comment read. The new customizable control center has also faced backlash.
Controversial iOS 18 features spark debate
Despite aiming to offer more creative freedom, many users find it overly complicated. “Whoever designed the iOS 18 control center should be fired. It is not user-friendly at all,” a user stated.
Apple’s troubles extend beyond the iOS 18 update. Shares fell as analysts noted weaker-than-expected demand for the new iPhone 16 Pro models. Some experts attributed this to the delayed rollout of Apple Intelligence, the company’s generative AI feature meant to enhance Siri and other functions.
Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst at TF International Securities, commented, “The major selling point, Apple Intelligence, is not available at launch alongside the iPhone 16 release.”
Apple has not yet responded to the negative feedback. However, users hope that future updates will address their concerns. For now, it seems iOS 18 has a long way to go to regain the trust of its user base.
