App Industry Roundup: the iPhone and Facebook’s world domination, Newsy on the iPad, anticipating Google’s tablet

In today’s App Industry Roundup, we look at how Facebook’s reported integration into the iPhone 4.0 will aid in the company’s efforts to dominate the digital world outside of the web. We also showcase Newsy.com’s new iPad application and preview what the app world will look like when Google introduces its own tablet computer.

More Facebook on your iPhone

While media outlets like Forbes.com obsess over Facebook’s  iPhone application that lets users filter and compare news coverage from multiple sources, just released an iPad application. The 9.7-inch screen size provided by the iPad makes watching Newsy videos on the go a more enjoyable experience. The app showcases the subtleties in different international coverage of news events, aggregated and organized by the Columbia, Missouri-based company.

See for yourself.

Google gets going on tablet computer

With its acquisition of Silicon Valley-based Agnilux, Google is one step closer to getting into the tablet game. Agnilux technology will allow Google to run services like its Chrome web browser and Android operating system onto tablet computers without draining as much battery power. Of all the great things about the iPad, the 11+ hours of battery life may be its most important.

Quietly, there are now nearly 40,000 apps available in Google’s Android market. While still only one-fifth the number of apps offered by Apple in the iTunes App Store, Google’s entry into tablet computing promises to bring a new dimension to its increasingly hot war with Google.

Stay tuned.
