Anticipation and rumors circulate on the eve of the iPad 2

Can you hear that sound? That silent nothing filled with the occasional pin drop? It can only be one thing: the sound of anticipation. With the arrival of the iPad 2 just a day away, the levee of rumors will soon burst into a wave of discussion. But in the meantime, here are some morsels we dug up to hold you over another 24 hours:

A picture’s worth a thousand Facebook likes

If you feel a bit strange desiring something you haven’t actually seen yet, like the past few months you’ve been in a strange online “relationship” where your new e-friend won’t cough-up an actual picture, perhaps this image from TechCrunch will at least get your imagination working overtime.

To be fair, the image could very well be fan-created, but in the lead-up, it at least lets us dream a bit longer. Although frankly I’d rather see the front to find out whether it has that long rumored front-facing camera or not.

Oh, about that camera…

The rumor mill is a strange beast. It felt like a few weeks ago everyone was speculating about a camera or a Retina display or even just the thickness of the iPad. Now, mere days away, things have gotten a bit quieter.

Still, PCWorld did an excellent job recapping what Appolicious and other sources have been saying could be expected of the iPad 2.

Like we reported yesterday, the white iPad 2 is atop that PCWorld rumor list, as is a thinner and lighter version than the original. While the latter seems like an obvious certainty, the white iPad rumors are gaining so much steam I’d almost be surprised not to see it.

And yes, camera geeks will be pleased to know that PCWorld does still believe the front-facing camera is on its way. And why shouldn’t it be? One more way to use FaceTime couldn’t hurt.

Bye bye, iPad OG

Finally, as if you needed any more convincing that the iPad 2 was anything less than imminent, 9to5Mac confirmed that original iPad shipments appear to have been halted.

If there were any remaining doubters, that would seemingly stop them in their tracks. Kudos, too, to Apple for leaving just enough iPads on shelves for a few more days until the iPad 2 is released. That is well-timed, indeed.

But let’s hear from you Appolicious readers! Are there any rumors you’re hearing out there that we haven’t touched on? Anything that makes you particularly nervous or excited about the iPad 2? Leave us a comment below.
