Adam Curry’s Big App Show iPhone app is entertaining

Always ahead of the curve, former MTV VJ Adam Curry scores a home run once again, with the free Big App Show app. True to its name, this app puts on somewhat of a show; or I should say, Curry puts on a show where he walks you through a variety of apps and their functions.

As Curry explains how the Look-A-Like, Hello Vino, Gwiggle-Digital Baby Book, and countless other apps work on what he calls “appisodes,” you feel as though you’re old friends and he’s in your living room chatting with you about apps. Plus, his information is to the point, thorough, and easy to understand.

Next comes the demonstration, where Curry offers step-by-step instructions on how to use each app. While he always has more knowledge about the app than a first-time user, he seems to be still figuring some details out as he goes along.

Curry is really friendly and comfortable in his own skin, as he always is, but particularly so in this app, which really works in his favor. He has the ability to keep your interest, whether or not you even wanted to know about the app to begin with. He is so candid with the audience, you even get an occasional “whoops” from him when he makes a mistake.

Since there are so many apps, and Curry can’t possibly cover them all — let alone be an expert on each, guest stars appear to discuss apps they specialize in. Johnjay introduces the Pandora radio app, which is free and super easy to download. Johnjay is not biased—he breaks the whole thing down, applauding the parts of the app that he loves as well as pointing out the negatives.

This app of apps is a collection of reviews, only instead of being written, they are spoken; instead of coming from writers like me, these reviews are being done by none other than the amazing Curry and friends. And the best part? The apps explained seem kind of endless. For a free app, this is quite a bargain.
