As social networking behemoths Facebook and LinkedIn deal with adversity, another social networking stalwart is giving itself a facelift.
Location-based networking pioneer foursquare today debuts a dramatically new look and feel, which include version 5.0 updates for iOS and Android devices.
Here is a glimpse of the app via foursquare propoganda.
We like what we see so far, and think the new design will appeal to both existing users and others who are still learning the vocabulary and nuances of location-based behavior. To date, foursquare has more than 20 million active users.
Here are a few key additions to the 5.0 update.
– A brand new friends tab that makes it easy to share and comment on experiences.
– Better ways to locate and contact friends nearby
– Faster check-ins
– Cleaner design and UI.
As noted by foursquare: “This isn’t just a fresh coat of paint, it’s a whole new app. And, as such, it’s just the beginning. We’ve got lots more coming in the weeks ahead, and expect even more this summer. Our little team has been working hard to build an app that helps people make the most of where they are, and we’re so excited that you can finally play with it.”
At least for the time being, foursquare app updates are limited to iOS and Android. BlackBerry and Windows users will need to wait at least a few weeks.
